In the event of a fire in a building, it is important to warn people as quickly as possible. Smoke spreads quite quickly, and standard evacuation plans, made in the form of graphic images, will hardly help a large flow of people to orient themselves and find a way out. This is especially true for visitors, buyers, and spectators who are visiting the building for the first time and do not know its layout.

Depending on the purpose of the building, its specifics, number of storeys, area, and the maximum number of visitors present at the same time, the type of EVAES is selected. There are 5 types of such systems, namely:
- Type 1 — used for premises with a small area. Notification is carried out by means of sound signals and illuminated scoreboards. Everything turns on at once.
- Type 2 — in addition to light and sound notifications, direction indicators and other elements are additionally used, allowing for better spatial orientation. There is a possibility of sequential activation of emergency alerts according to priority.
- Type 3 — used when a voice notification method is required in large or multi-story buildings. Voice notification is carried out both by a sound system and in text form. It is possible to create zoning for the operation of annunciators. Methods from types 1 and 2 are also applied.
- Type 4 — includes all the above notification methods and adds feedback from the evacuation zones to the dispatch room. It is possible to create various independent evacuation schemes. Building a system of this type helps to organize a more flexible evacuation depending on the development of the emergency.
- Type 5 — the most complex and advanced system. It is mainly used in multi-story buildings. It assumes full automation and the creation of various evacuation schemes from emergency notification zones.
