Globally, there are numerous examples where unauthorized audio and video surveillance has caused substantial losses to businesses and corporations, destroyed families, reputations, careers of public figures, and even impacted heads of state.
This raises a key question: how can unexpected and critical consequences caused by uncontrolled information leakage be prevented?
There are three essential rules that must be followed to maintain an adequate level of information security:
- Conduct regular inspections and technical sweeps of potential information leakage zones, including offices, meeting rooms, vehicles, residences, and locations used for negotiations.
- Provide systematic training for security personnel and maintain a high standard of information security awareness among employees and service staff.
- Equip specially prepared rooms designed for confidential negotiations and meetings.
Surveillance devices may be installed internally for limited periods of time, for example as single-use placements hidden in flower pots, attached with adhesive tape, or integrated into everyday office items such as calculators, pens, or similar objects.
A more serious threat arises when microphones or video devices are connected to permanent power sources and can be remotely controlled, for instance through air conditioning systems, computers, or fire alarm sensors. In addition, surveillance may also be conducted externally by capturing vibrations from windows or walls of adjacent premises.
